Happy New Year 2016!
So finally we have arrived! Are you happy to welcome the New Year? Why not? God is with us! Remember Christmas? What do we celebrate during Christmas? Is it not the birth of Christ, our Savior, the God-with-us? We are assured of his presence in our lives every hour, every moment, all we need is to believe and to trust his words, and to receive the grace and strength he gives that will enable us to make a leap of faith into the New Year, into a new beginning, into a new life.
We do not know what will happen to us this year, we do not know what awaits us. Some things and events, or rather most of them, are unpredictable. Who cares? If God is with us, what have we to fear? As long as God is with us, whether this or that is for or against us, does not matter so much. What matter is and what matter most is that God is with us. Let us rest on this truth and be convinced of it. Let us trust God, let us love him! Let us put our hand in his and allow ourselves to be led by him as we embark into a new journey this new year or as we continue the journey we have begun in the past years. In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we can be confident that our merciful God will not forsake us, His mercy will protect us. Let us give him our all! Let us put all our trust in him!
January 1 is also the Feast of Mary, the Mother of God. So we have all the help we need as we enter this New Year. Yes, Mary, our Mother is the Mother of God. She will intercede for us, speak for us before the Father if we cannot find words to express ourselves to him, she will bring us closer to her Son Jesus, our Lord and Brother, and she will help us listen and follow the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking in our hearts. Let us entrust ourselves to her maternal care.
