The first candidates who entered the Convent of the Divine Word in Nysa, Poland in 1994 included young women from Slovakia. The thought of some day founding an Adoration Convent in Slovakia was always present. The Steyl Missionaries and Missionary Sisters especially, but also the candidates themselves, were filled with this idea. In January 1999 the then Provincial Superior of the Slovakian Province, Father Pavol Krutak, SVD sent an official petition to Mother Mary Aurora. He expressed his hope that the Lord would also call young women in Slovakia. Besides, he emphasized that the witness of the Adoration Sisters would be meaningful for everyone. He had already spoken with the then Diocesan Bishop, Cardinal Jan Korec, who was enthused about this prospect. After the International Superiors’ Meeting in St. Louis in September 1999, Mother Mary Aurora could reply that the superior of Nysa and her councillor would visit Slovakia in order to assess the situation and to encourage young women to enter the Congregation in Poland. Perhaps then, one could venture to make a new foundation.
The International Assembly of our Congregation in 2003 was in favor of making a new foundation in Slovakia. We were warmly welcomed in the Diocese of Nitra, Slovakia. A suitable piece of property was even placed at our disposal. Fr. Provincial Dusicka, SVD was very supportive of this foundation. He supervised the construction and all the legal matters and attended to the benefactors, since we ourselves as cloistered Sisters could not always be present.
The new superior general, Sister Mary Cecilia, elected in 2003, travelled to Nitra with her councillors a few times in order to settle the necessary formalities and to evaluate the progress of the construction. The solemn blessing of the cornerstone by Bishop Viliam Judak took place on May 1, 2007. Finally in autumn of 2008, the four Sisters appointed for this new foundation could set out for Slovakia and soon move into the new convent. On November 15, 2008 Bishop Viliam Judak presided over the solemn dedication of the Chapel and Convent of the Most Holy Trinity. The small convent enjoys the paternal support of this Diocesan Bishop. Many people – priests, religious and laity – bring their cares and needs to our Eucharistic Lord and gladly pledge to keep hours of adoration by day and night. May this convent become a source of grace and blessing for Slovakia and the entire Church.
